Short BiographySander L. Koole completed his PhD-thesis with highest academic honors (top 5%) at the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2000. He has worked at the VU University Amsterdam since 1999, and his research has been supported by grants from the European Research Council (ERC) and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) in 2000. Dr Koole's research deals with the question how people can self-regulate their actions, thoughts, and emotions. He has published over 60 international articles and chapters on these topics. With Jeff Greenberg and Tom Pyszczynski, Dr Koole edited the Handbook of experimental existential psychology (2004). Dr Koole has been associate editor of Cognition and Emotion (2007-2010), guest editor of special issues in Social Cognition (2004) and Cognition and Emotion (2011), and consulting editor for the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Psychological Inquiry, and the Journal of Research in Personality. In 2009-2010, Dr Koole was a residential fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University.
