Why Publish with PLOS ONE
We Emphasize Quality and Authors' Needs
- Fair, rigorous peer review
PLOS ONE is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing high quality research. Submissions are considered
on the basis of scientific validity and technical quality, not perceived impact. See our Publication Criteria for more information.
- Prestigious editorial board
All research is assessed by your peers—more than 3500 of
them—who serve on our international and multidisciplinary editorial board. Their role at PLOS ONE
ensures the journal's scientific integrity.
- Authors retain copyright
The CC-BY license used by PLOS ensures that
you retain the copyright over your work while giving the world access to download, print, distribute, read, and use
your article with proper attribution.
- Flexible formatting
You have the freedom to present your research as you want, without limits on manuscript length or number of figures.
We Maximize and Measure Your Article's Reach
- Rapid publication
PLOS ONE publishes articles daily, so your research is available online when it's ready for publication,
without delays based on an editorial calendar or publishing cycle.
- Track your impact
Article-Level Metrics (ALMs), such as the number of article
views and citations, measure the reach and influence of your research in real-time and are automatically shown on
every PLOS ONE article page.
- Regular media coverage
Articles are often reported in media outlets such as Reuters, BBC, The New York Times, and The
Economist. PLOS ONE research is also discussed on our blog network
of science and medical writers.
- Indexed and archived
PLOS ONE articles are indexed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of
Science, Google Scholar, Chemical
Abstracts Service (CAS), EMBASE, AGRICOLA, PsycINFO, Zoological
Records, FSTA, GeoRef, and RefAware, as well as being searchable via the Web of Knowledge. All articles are archived in PubMed Central and LOCKSS.
We Remove Boundaries to Publishing
- Helpful and accessible staff
We pride ourselves on our helpful and responsive service. Over 85% of PLOS ONE authors report that they are
"very" or "extremely" satisfied with their experience publishing with us.
- Publication fee assistance
PLOS reduces pricing barriers to publishing. In September 2012, we instituted our Global Participation Initiative (GPI),
by which authors in group one countries are not charged a fee,
and those in group two countries are charged $500, rather than
the standard cost of $1350. In all cases, decisions to publish are based solely on editorial criteria.
- Broad scope
PLOS ONE publishes articles in more than 50 diverse scientific fields and facilitates publication of research
in underrepresented disciplines, interconnections between fields, and interdisciplinary exploration.
And Don't Forget, We're Open Access
Everyone can freely access and download all PLOS ONE articles without paying subscription fees, pay-per-view charges, or any other restrictions. Publishing open access makes it easier for others to access your research, and it may also help you comply with your funder's policies regarding open access publication and indexing/archiving.
