A meta-analysis of so many different sets of data obviously brings about methodological issues, and the message sent out by the title will certainly be used out of the context of this paper, but the study addresses a very important point: At what timescale can ecosystems recover from natural or human-related damage?

Besides, the 256 references in Table S1 may turn out to be a treasure trove for parametrizing models of ecosystem change.
