MUC1* is shown to be the dominant if not sole MUC1 surface ligand present on human solid tumors. Dimerization of MUC1* by its natural ligand NM23 produced by the same cells forms a 'malignant' positive feedback loop causing cell division and resistance to apoptosis. Insightful groundbreaking work.
