Being an Academic Editor for this paper, I agree with the two referees that this paper is elegant in both statistics and experimental design. Altermatt and Ebert use their Daphnia-system in a powerful way to adress some important issues in host-parasiste co-evolution. Having said that, I must also say that I found this paper somewhat of a difficult read, which may, however, reflect my limited knowledge in this area and my lack of direct hands-on research experience with the Daphnia-system.
