Ampakines used in the study were provided free of charge by Cortex Pharmaceuticals. However, Cortex Pharmaceuticals was not involved in any aspect of study design, experimentation, data analysis, or manuscript preparation. Fundings for all other aspects of the study, beyond providing amapakines, were from government funding agencies Canadian Institutes for Health Research and Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. United States provisional patent application S/N 60/824,245 ‘Method of Inhibiting Respiratory Depression Using Ampakines’. The University of Alberta has granted Cortex Pharmaceuticals a worldwide exclusive license to the patent rights covered by this application.
