Toxicity of ancestral WAM?

Great work, sets the stage for high-throughput synthesis and testing of cathecidins as drugs. Have you checked the toxicity of the ancestral WAM? That would be really interesting!

Good point on the screening as we may be able to improve on the good examples nature has provided. We have been focussed on testing WAM1, and improved variants of it, for toxic effects and they look good. We are yet to test ancestral WAM for toxic effects, but hope it too will be compatible with mammalian cells.
