Testing Validity?

The testing reported by Dr Eagleman is based on having the test subject undergo a planned frightening event. Hence, the brain is able to both anticipate and compensate. In an actual 'time shift' situation, the event is not only frightening but, more important, unexpected. Is it possible that it is this unexpectedness that is the key element that cause brain functions to shift into a hyper evaluation mode?
