It was the first study that genetically demonstrates the inconsistency of A.lusitanicus as an european non-iberian species.
As stated in Abstract: "Arion lusitanicus showed up to be polyphyletic: specimens, sampled outside the geographic range of the topotype in the north-western Iberian Peninsula, were included in a non-monophyletic clade together with the widely distributed species Arion ater and Arion rufus."

Thank you for the comment. This reference was already included. It was cited (Ref 87 in References S1) and sequences from it were incorporated in our analyses (Table S2). Our paper already accepts Quinteiro et al.'s conclusion that the name A. lusitanicus Mabille should apply only to an Iberian species. Furthermore it acknowledges that many other recent publications also accept this view, as demonstrated by their use of the name A. lusitanicus auct. non Mabille for taxa found outside Iberia.
