random thoughts

Thank you for a very interesting article.

While there are dangers with self-diagnosis, I suspect I am a misophone, mid-range. As I was reading, I had a few random thoughts:

1) is the lack of drug use or excessive alcohol use representative of the broader community?

2) although the condition has only been named recently I suspect it has been around for a long time. You didn't mention the other sound that sends a lot of misophones off the chart, which is whistling. Winston Churchill mentioned in his autobiography that he loathed the sound. Although not exactly a description of misophonia, the list song Ko Ko sings in the operetta "The Mikado" is suggestive of misophonia.

3) Are there sounds misophones like? For example, I actively enjoy hearing cats purr.

4) I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that I believe that misophonia is an induced condition. In my case, it involved a bullying step father who made me more and more sensitive to eating noises. He also whistled.

The Americans used music to break down detainees' resistance in Guantanamo (Gospel & rap apparently). Although not exactly the same, "Chinese water torture" also works along similar lines.

No competing interests declared.
