The expression of TCTP was up-regulated post WSSV injection. Silencing TCTP significantly increased virus load compared to control shrimp, indicating that TCTP might play important roles in the host defense against virus infection. This study provided new insights into the role of TCTP in the immune response of invertebrates against virus infection.

In shrimp Penaeus monodon, injection of shrimp with recombinant fortilin(TCTP) after infection with WSSV resulted in higher survival and lower levels of WSSV compare to the control [37]. Fortilin was also indicated that overexpression of fortilin in Sf9 cells inhibited the expression of WSSV early genes and late genes [38]. These results, combining with our results, imply that TCTP may decrease viral infection by inhibiting viral replication.
