I read this paper with great interest. However, I was disappointed that the authors failed to cite our recent work (in the same journal) on T-lymphocyte responses in mesenteric adipose tissue in a mouse model of diet-induced metabolic syndrome. We not only confirm robust FOXP3 expression in adipose tissue, but also provide a possible explanation for increased T-lymphocyte recruitment into visceral adipose tissue, namely in response to intestinally absorbed antigenic material. This proposed mechanism could help explain the marked differences between subcutaneous fat and mesenteric fat in terms of lymphocyte responses following high-fat dieting.
It would have been nice if this work would have been included in the Discussion of the present paper.
