The role of proteolysis in differentiation/maturation of Schwann cells was first published in 1984: Kalderon, "Schwann cell proliferation and localized proteolysis: expression of plasminogen-activator activity predominates in the proliferating cell populations. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. (1984) USA 81:7216-7220.
this paper should be refered to and cited

Altogether the role of proteolysis in developing and regenerating neural tissues was first studied and published as follows:
Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA (1979) 76:5992-5996
J. Neurosci. Res. (1982) 8:509-519
Dev. Brain Res. (1986) 25:1-9
J. Neurosci. Res. (1988) 21:501-512
Glia (1990) 3:413-426
