NRK-49F or NRK-52E?

Posted by xqh1999 on 27 Nov 2012 at 16:46 GMT

This is a very interesting paper. However, NRK-49F cells are generally believed to be a mesenchymal (fibroblast-like) cell line and NRK-52E cells are of epithelial origin. Thus, it is somehow surprising that the authors used NRK-49F cells as a model to show "epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT)".

Are the so called NRK-49F/NRK cells actually NRK-52E cells?

The ATCC catalogue numbers for the two cell lines are CRL-1570 and CRL-1571, respectively.
