Shining a Light on Mechanisms of Persistence

Seventy years ago, science writer B. Newman warned that the astounding ability of Borrelia and other spirochetes to establish persistent infection in the face of immunocompetence and penicillin had made them an obsession of Japanese bioweaponeers. The authors of this present study have masterfully elucidated what may prove to be a crucial mechanism of chronic, multi-system infection in Lyme Borreliosis.
