Cannabis however, unlike other drugs, does not currently include the seventh criterion of withdrawal for diagnosing a cannabis use disorder in the DSM-IV. This is due to debate about the clinical significance of the cannabis withdrawal syndrome.

All drugs of dependence have a distinct withdrawal syndrome defined as a separate drug use disorder in the DSM (separate to the dependence disorder), except for cannabis, which does not currently have a separate and distinct cannabis withdrawal syndrome disorder.
