Igniting Fire in Vedic Period and Now

A single wooden stick with pointed ends is rotated ('churned') between two pieces / blocks of wood with shallow depressions for holding the stick -- called Arani has been used since the Vedic Ages, in "India".
This is practiced even now, for generating fire, when Vedic Sacrifices (Yajna) are performed, with no extraneous sources for igniting.
