In this work, the authors present calculations using information theoretic measures to quantify the information processing capabilities of small biochemical network modules.
They present a theoretical framework for thinking about biochemical regulation that is not often exploited in quantitative biology.
I found this paper (which I first encounter on the q-bio archives) to be highly instructive in guiding my own education on the applications of information theory.
In the future, as I thinking about alternative ways to characterize the dynamics of mammalian signaling networks, I believe this paper will have influenced my thinking and will lead me into new and exciting directions in my own research!
