The only criticism I have of this manuscript is that the explanation for the differences in levels of anti-bacterial Hsp90 could lie in the levels of human Hsp90 that are being secreted into the circulation in the various population groups. For example, a recent paper in PLoS ONE has reported that levels of Hsp10 are much lower in periodontal patients than in controls but that after intensive therapy blood concentrations return to control levels. Could something similar be the explanation for differences in antibody levels. A high circulating level of human Hsp90 could possibly remove anti-bacterial Hsp90 antibodies from the ELISA analysis. This could easily be checked with a few serum samples.
