Reviewer 2's Review (Paolo Mascagni)

-----

The MS describes the plasma concentrations of three molecular chaperones (HSP10, HSP60 and BiP) in patients with periodontal disease and shows that HSP10 (and BiP) is statistically less abundant compared with control. Furthermore, immediately after clinical treatment, the plasma levels of HSP10 (but not HSP60 or BiP) increased and correlated with disease improvement. This finding is of particular importance and is consistent with recent observations of the anti-inflammatory role of HSP10 in preclinical models and in preliminary clinical studies in arthritis. The study described in the present MS is well conducted and convincing from a statistical stand point.
