Q: Conceptual divergence from invasion biology?

Posted by Anekeia on 31 Dec 2010 at 20:17 GMT

This article equates taxa dispersing under an apparent absence or rarity of vicariance effects during the Devonian with recent biological invasions. Prominent invasion biologists have asserted that invasive species represent a subset of alien species, which they differentiate from all others by evidence of a history of human mediated distribution (see, e.g., Richardson and others (2000) Naturalization and invasion of alien plants: concepts and definitions. Diversity and Distributions, 6, 93–107). Does this expansion strengthen or weaken the normative assertions of invasion biology?
