function of apoLs

I would like to comment on the distribution and function of apoLs.

Contrary to the information given in this paper,
(1) The apoL genes are not limited to primates, but are also found in other mammals;
(2) There is no evidence that apoLs are involved in trafficking of cholesterol.

As reviewed in Vanhollebeke, B., and Pays, E. (2006) The function of apolipoproteins L. Cell. Mol. Life Sci. 63, 1937-1944, these proteins are likely to play a role in programmed cell death.
In particular, apoL1 was shown to be implicated in trypanolysis by human serum (see: Pays, E., Vanhollebeke, B., Vanhamme, L., Paturiaux-Hanocq, F., Nolan, D.P., and Pérez-Morga, D. (2006) The trypanolytic factor of human serum. Nature Reviews Microbiol. 4, 477-486.
