If people read and respect my previous PUBLICATIONS (partially collected at http://im1.biz/iPS.htm ) people should realize that these “newly discovered” cancer stem cells are indeed cancer stem cells previously described by me as iPSCs (incorrectly programmed stem cells).
The authors of this paper actually lacked or neglected that insight and thus even created some self-conflicting statements such as deriving CSCs from iPSCs when the iPSCs were already CSCs made by the intrinsic capability of the cancerous reprogramming process. The authors seemed to believe that their “conditioned medium” allowed iPSCs to acquire the characteristics of CSCs but that understanding is incorrect!
The “conditioned medium” only created a condition for the propagation of the already existing CSCs. The creation of those CSCs is the “contribution” of the Yamanaka “reprogramming” process.
But the discovery of iPSCs as CSCs and iPS reprogramming as a cancer cell formation process is made by me. That insightful discovery was made in 2007 and recorded in many publications!
As a matter of fact, a patent application of using iPSCs as serendipitous cancer cells for searching for anti-cancer drugs that will kill the “root” of the cancer was filed year ago. That invention was aimed at finding “broad-spectrum” anti-neoplastic agents.
