These comments come from discussion of this paper in the Animal Cognition Reading Group at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.

This paper provides an interesting look at a new behavior seen in chimpanzees, direct sharing of a resource other than meat. However, our group has numerous concerns about the methods and data analyses of the paper and would like these issues to be clarified before the overall conclusion about shareability of “forbidden” resources can be made.

We address each set of issues as separate entries to facilitate a detailed discussion.
