closeThis could be due to increasing testosterone in human evolution.

It is my hypothesis that human evolution is driven by increasing testosterone ("Androgens in Human Evolution," Rivista di Biologia / Biology Forum 2001; 94: 345-362). A number of publications in the medical literature indicate an association of increased testosterone with type 1 diabetes. I suggest the findings of Corona, et al., may be explained by increases in testosterone in humans during our evolution.

That's a great suggestion. The suppl. materials contains an inclusive list of genes/SNPs that show signs of positive selection and association with Type 1 Diabetes.
