Could Echolocation Also Be A Function of Early Click Languages?

Posted by BentleyNASProf on 30 May 2011 at 22:07 GMT

I was wondering if anyone has hypothesized echolocation as a possible additional function for early homo sapiens who potenitally were using click languages? As current click speakers in Africa are descendents of hunter-gatherers, wouldn't the ability of using echolocation as a sort of added dimension to communication during hunting be of assistance to early humans or for that matter other (now extinct) members of our genus?

I just listened to a podcast about Daniel Kish, a blind man who sees by echolocation. I had the same thought as you about African click languages. I wondered if early man used echolocation and their language had developed from that. My search brought me to your comment albeit 4 years after you posted.
