Reviewer 1's Review (Graham Pockley)

-----

This study has investigated circulating levels of molecular chaperones in normal individuals and individuals with periodontal disease. The authors have also studied the effect treatment for periodontal disease on the circulating levels of these proteins. This study extends the previous work of the authors and adds to the literature in this area. The findings reported in this manuscript are novel and the experimental approach and statistical analysis appear to be valid and appropriate.

It would appear that the treatment of periodontal disease is a good model for acute inflammatory responses in the clinical setting, and this approach might provide insight into a number of mechanisms that potentiate and control such acute inflammatory events.
