Availability of the full genome sequence of Brachyspira murdochii 56-150T

The authors of the current manuscript (Wanchanthuek et al. 2010) wish to emphasise that the main purposes of this paper were i) to present data on the genome of the newly sequenced Brachyspira pilosicoli 95/1000 and ii) to compare this information with available genomic data for Brachyspira hyodysenteriae WA1 and Brachyspira murdochii 56-150T.

At the time this paper was submitted only a partial genome sequence of B. murdochii 56-150T was available in GenBank, and this was used in the comparisons. This partial sequence of 56-150T was generated at the US DOE Joint Genome Institute (JGI-PGF) as part of the Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea (GEBA) project. We wish to acknowledge the GEBA project, and the generosity of the authors who made this genomic data feely available for use by the scientific community.

In the interval between submission and publication of the current manuscript a complete genome sequence of B. murdochii 56-150T was released (GenBank CP001959). The release was accompanied by a Short Genome Report (Amrita Pati and colleagues, Standards in Genome Science (2010) 2:260-269) and this can be accessed at: http://standardsingenomic....
We recommend that readers of the current article also read the short report, because it contains more complete data for B. murdochii 56-150T. For example the final genome size is now 3,241,804 bp with a total of 2,893 genes and 1,815 genes assigned to COGs, compared to 3,189,383 bp, 3,055 genes and 1,217 genes assigned to COGs, as deduced from the partial genome sequence and presented in the current paper. Undoubtedly more detailed analysis of this completed genome sequence of B. murdochii will provide further useful insights into relationships between the various Brachyspira species.
