It has been shown that the rates of both microsaccades and eyeblinks increase before perceptual switches to the ‘see’ state and decrease upon perceptual switches to the ‘no see’ state [18]–[23]

The earliest study I know of that showed a relationship between microsaccade rate and perceptual awareness is: Sabrin, H. W., & Kertesz, A. E. (1980). Microsaccadic eye movements and binocular rivalry. Perception & Psychophysics, 28, 150-154.
