It should be noted that HBV- and HBV/HCC-associated serum miRNAs were investigated by Li, et al. and published in 2010: Li LM, et al. "Serum microRNA profiles serve as novel biomarkers for HBV infection and diagnosis of HBV-positive hepatocarcinoma." Cancer Research, Dec 1, 2010, 70(23). The investigators reported that 13 miRNAs were upregulated during HBV infection and could distinguish HBV from controls as well as HBV from HBV+ HCC.
