This is a very valuable analysis and will provide an excellent baseline for later studies as GBIF progresses with both its coverage of institutions and regions, and its acceptance of data quality and data cleaning techniques.
As mentioned by the authors, responsibility for data quality and data cleaning rests with the data providers, however studies such as this should be an encouragement to data providers to spend time on improving the quality of their data.
