The genome sequences of bacteria that have accumulated so far represent only three phyla, thus leaving major gaps in the genomic representation of the bacterial diversity of our biosphere

I appreciate the link to the GEBA project that I am coordinating. However, there are genomes available from more than three phyla. A more accurate statement would be that MOST of the genomes are form three phyla.

Oh - and here is a link to GenomesOnline.org which has data on completed microbial genomes --- see for example the figure showing # of genomes per phylum
