This article provides important new insights into the inflammtory processes driven by PGC-1. The authors show that overexpression of PGC-1 in muscle cells acts proinflammatory. Their experiments are very robust. Importantly, they considered to use equal multiplicity of infection for the adenoviruses PGC-1 and GFP. Something that is often not respected. This is a crucial issue, since without this equalization an interpretation would be impossible. The change in inflammation could just be due to differential inflammatory stimulation because of different amounts of viral particles. The study here is also consistent with an abstract publication by Olesen J et al that demonstrates elevated levels of proinflammatory markers in myoblasts isolated from mice transgenic for PGC-1 in skeletal muscle.
