This paper from a well established group demonstrates, effectively, how fibril density and orientation differs in an area closer to the site of prospective amnion rupture (in preparation for birth) verses site/s closer to the placenta (which functionally must not rupture pre-birth). The decrease in fibril spacing and organization appear, logically, to lead to a site that is more likely to rupture verses the better organized and presumably stronger (due to greater fibril density and organization) parts of the membrane. This paper nicely describes the molecular remodeling that occurs during pregnancy in preparation for delivery. Perhaps it might also stimulate dissuasion as to how this remodeling is achieved.
