Interesting paper, confirming the need to rein in global climate change if we hope to preserve biodiversity into the future.

Thoreau and Leopold aren't just good sources for phenological data. They have a lot to say about what will be needed to create the kinds of societies that are able to leave some habitat and resources for other species.

For example, as Leopold put it in his foreword to "A Sand County Almanac": "Nothing could be more salutary at this stage than a little healthy contempt for a plethora of material blessings."
