Did authors came up with this data structure completely on their own - is it a complete novelty ? If that is the case it should be described in more detail. Otherwise they should provide a reference to the publication were the idea was drawn from.

To the best of our knowledge this kind of hash scheme has not been described before -- otherwise we would have provided a reference!!! If you have seen this before, please let us know what references we should cite. While we came up with it independently, we should of course reference related work in any event.
We tried to describe both the ideas that led to the development of the hash (in the Results section) and the steps needed to implement it (in the Methods section). Is there some particular aspect you would like further clarified?
