interesting question, but ...

The authors address an important, rather neglected problem: non-genetic hereogeneity of cells in matazoan. The biological implications in terms of a complex system built of autonomous elements (cells) are hardly examined. This paper presents an interesting start, a pretty robust experimental system and a simple, intelligible model. Hopefully it will stimulate more work, notably the development of analysis methods to confirm and more rigorously quantitate the results presented here. Then more sophisticated theoretical models that the one proposed here can be designed and tested...
