Reviewer 2's Review (Wolfgang Deppert)

---
The authors have performed an interesting study on the stress response of gametes in the sea anemone Nemostella vectensis, which led to the identification of three p53 related proteins, nvp53, nvp63 and nvp73. Comparative cross-species analysis revealed that nvp63 is the most archaic member of the p53 family, both in structure and function, which is responsible for UV-light induced apoptosis in gametes.
The data are clean, of high technical quality, and nicely presented. I do not have any criticism.
