Contrary to the author's claim, this interaction has been shown previously in S. aureus, namely by Rajagopala et al. (2010), BMC Genomics 2010, 11:470 (http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2164/11/470), although the paper is admittedly not easy to find in that context.
