As a part of my seminar in Sensation and Perception we did a similar experiment 2 years ago. We used 128-channel EGI Inc. system. The EEGs during the binaural beats stimulation were compared with those for monoaural beats of the same frequency (10 Hz at 300 Hz carrier), 10 Hz clicks, and silence. 10 subjects were tested with eye closed. The stimulation and recordings lasted for 5 minutes. No consistent effect on alpha rhythm power or on power of other frequency bands was observed. Conclusion - there isn't anything special about binaural beats.
