Comment on behalf of the authors - Raw Mass Spectrometry Data of Honey Bee Samples

Posted by PLOS_ONE_Group on 09 Dec 2011 at 15:47 GMT

*.RAW files were uploaded to Tranche on Aug 30 2011, at 05:22:15.236 PM.

Description: These *.RAW mass spectrometry files represent samples of honey bees that were used for analysis.

Data in these files served as the basis for a 2010 article in PLoS ONE - PLoS ONE 5(10) e13181.doi:10.1371/journal.pone. 0013181. Bromenshenk et al., Iridovirus and Microsporidian Linked to Honey Bee Colony Decline.

This data is provided to assist those analyzing honey bee samples for honey bee pathogens. We are preparing two new papers for publication based on other (non-honey bee) pathogens identified in these samples. We do not waive our rights to publish these additional results, and we will vigorously defend our rights against unauthorized use of any data that is not related to our prior publication.

As the lead author of the aforementioned paper, I should disclose that I am a research professor at The University of Montana, where some of the work was done. I am also the CEO of Bee Alert Technology, Inc.; a Montana University System Regent's Approved Technology Transfer Company that is affiliated with The University of Montana. The sampling was supported by contracts and donations to Bee Alert from beekeeping associations and non-profit research funding groups. There was no funding received from USDA or any private corporation.

The proteomics –based species identification was conducted by the U.S. Army, using their own, unique ABOID software system. Statistical analysis for the ABOID results was performed at The University of Montana. Nosema studies and verifications by microscopy and PCR were conducted at Montana State University.
