Uncoupling hedgehog's roles in planar orientation and fate instruction

The implication of hedgehog directly in planar cell polarity decisions is very interesting for vertebrate embryologists as well. By what players does transcriptional control by ci have a repercussion on the organisation of the actin cytoskeleton? Perhaps this is the link between the fate-instruction role and the cell-survival role of Shh via the dependence receptor Ptc as observed in vertebrates. This work also has important implications once again for the organisation and closure of the neural and digestive tubes, which fold away from the central source of vertebrate Shh, the notochord, and the secondary sources in the neural floorplate and gut "roofplate".
