closeQuestion about bone tools shown in photo "B"
Posted by BenjaminEble on 31 Aug 2013 at 00:50 GMT
I am not an academic. But, I have a question about the two bone tools shown in photo "B". Are those tools "flaking tools"? Are they made from ivory? And, is there any other known examples, of similar tools, from South America? Thanks,
Ben

Dear Ben,
No, I don't think the bone tools are "flaking tools". There are no stone resources in the region and there were no remains or evidence of knapping associated with the tools. As far as I know, neither obsidian nor flint have been found in the area. I am not an expert in the field, not sure if similar tools have been documented in South America.
