closelove and hate

Its very interesting how interconnected love and hate can be such with similar regions of activation involved with both emotional states (right putamen and the medial insula). A recent study has found that revenge behavior can be rewarding and pleasurable in many, and in particular may be more male specific. Areas that are active for food, sex, and drugs also were found to be active when 'unfair competitors' given simulated aversive stimuli. From this it is easy to see on this continuum how some pathological individuals constantly engage in behaviors that are mentally and physically hurtful to others, as a way to feel good in the suffering of others.

Kevin,
Part of your sentence -'when 'unfair competitors' given simulated aversive stimuli' - is a mouthful. Would you mind elaborating on that for me.
Thanks,
Francien
