The masters yoga both ancient and modern point to this undelying mechanism. They call this mechanism 'kundalini' Swami Satyananda Sarawati of the Bihar School of Yoga made a call to scientists in 1981 to research kundalini for the betterment of humankind. Dr Hiroshi Motoyama pubished his scientific research in kundalini in his pubished book 'Theories of the Chakras'.
