This paper confirms the data we published previously (June, 20, 2012) in PLoS One (doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0038647 - http://www.plosone.org/ar...); which the authors seem to have missed. We made a topographical 3D analysis of the adult SVZ in the rat and found an uneven distribution of proliferating cells in the adult SVZ, similarly to what is also now described by Azim et al. We agree with the authors, and as we have stated before in our study, the findings highlight the need to establish standardized procedures of SEZ analysis; and for that we proposed an anatomical division of the SEZ that should be considered in future studies addressing proliferation in this neural stem cell niche.
